Her academic work focuses on contemporary novels that encourage readers to find agency and empowerment in their approach to nature and their impact on the natural world, and her TTRPG adventures incorporate lots of druids.

Where nature and fantasy meet.
Fantasy Afield focuses on celebrating the magic and beauty in our daily lives. In this space, we discuss how we can value the natural world and take care of it, ourselves, our communities, and our world.
The primary way we do that on this site is through the lens of fantasy fiction, especially novels that provide both an escape and a critical commentary on the world around us.
Many people view fantasy as a genre that looks backward, and this is true to an extent, but I think that’s only half of the picture. We use visions of the past to cast a vision forward. My hope for this site is that we can examine various authors’ pictures of the past and, together, with a greater variety of voices, we might cast a new vision that becomes our future reality.
In addition to fiction, Fantasy Afield covers fantasy-adjacent topics like tarot, journaling, and creativity.
