What Is Your Tree Personality? The Celtic Zodiac

December 21, 2021 by Beth

In the first Friday Fantasy Folio letter, I sent Mistletoe Musings to the Circle of Story. The letter went out on December 23rd, the Nameless Day in Celtic Astrology. You can read more about mistletoe and the Nameless Day here.

I love personality types and typing. They’ve been a fascination of mine since I learned about the four humors in middle school from a family friend. I branched from there into Myers Briggs and the Compass Personality types. More recent interests have branched into the Enneagram and Clifton Strengths.

But of course when we’re talking about personality, we can also be talking about astrology! My star sign is Aquarius (we’re known for being independent, idealistic, and unique, all of which I relate to). But it was with great joy a few years ago that I discovered a zodiac that I hadn’t come across previously: the Celtic Zodiac.

The ancient Druids divided the year into the thirteen moon cycles, each of which corresponded to a different tree. The people born under these different moons also carried the characteristics of their trees.

At this point, I am hoping you’re wondering about your tree sign and what it says about your personality. (And of course no personality test or system will perfectly encompass you and all the things that make up who you are—you’re unique!)

So I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite resources on Celtic astrology where you can find your tree sign and its description.

  • “What Kind of Tree Are You,” from One Tree Planted
  • “Celtic Tree Astrology” from the Tree Council of Ireland
  • “Celtic Tree Astrology” from What’s Your Sign

The last site also has a great overview of the meanings of significant trees to the Celts.

rowan trees

I was exceedingly delighted when I discovered that my own Celtic zodiac sign is the rowan tree. I love rowans and find them exceedingly interesting and beautiful with fascinating symbolism. Plus the main character is my new series, Feather & Flame, is named Rowan!

rowan – the thinker

Rowan signs have a philosophical mind within the zodiac. Those with Rowan energy are likely a keen-minded visionary with high ideals. Your thoughts are original and creative, so much so that others can misunderstand from where you are coming. Although you may appear to have a cool exterior, you are burning from within with your passionate ideals. This inner passion provides inner motivation for you as you make your way through life. You have a natural ability to transform situations and people around you by your mere presence. You are highly influential in a quiet way and others look to you for your unique perspectives. A Rowan pairs well with Ivy and Hawthorn signs.
