Son of Dragons: Campaign and Story Background

Story Setting

Son of Dragons takes place in the world of Eldura. It begins in the kingdom of Bastion and moves northwest off the coast of the Hallowed Hills. There, the party finds the Moonbreak Archipelago.

In the timeline of Eldura, this story occurs after the destruction or Orison and immediately following the fall of Steymhorod. (Learn more about the history of Eldura here.)

Steymhorod’s disappearance from the prime plane is a major plot point in Part One.

The Kingdom of Verita

In Old Eldura, a new line of kings rules the kingdom of Verita. Lord Protector Eimear Ash has held the throne for two decades and has recently decided to pass rule of the kingdom on to his son, Irving.

Eimear has recently taken in saudad refugees who fled the fall of Steymhorod. They have set up residence in what has been renamed the Muster District on the edge of the city. He promised them protection while they attempt to make their way back to Steymhorod.

The saudad have been experimenting with ways to enchant their wagons so that they can break through whatever curse surrounds Steymhorod. A few months into their experiments, they believe they’re getting close to a solution.

The Moonbreak Archipelago

Northwest of Verita, beyond the Hallowed Hills lies the Moonbreak Archipelago, a small island chain. One of the noble families of the Northlands, the Torrine, lay claim to the archipelago.

About the Northlands: The Northlands remain relatively remote from the central kingdoms of Eldura, though they hope to make an alliance with one of the Cities United. Some of the Cities are more open to this possibility than others, especially given the mysterious origin of the Northlanders’ magical technologies. Unlike the living airships of Respite and Bastion, the Northlanders’ vessels are entirely mechanical and run solely on the power of the sun.

While our two main characters—Erela and Vekt—have been absent from Verita, the Torrine family has advanced their political inroads further with an engagement between Fleur Torrine and Irving Ash.

Main Characters

Erela

A young saudad woman destined to become the Chosen of Cassandra, which is the story of Part One of The Tree of Silver. (You can read the prologue here. We meet Erela in chapter one.)

In Part Two, Erela has succeeded in becoming the Chosen of the goddess of fate. She has returned to Verita to help her people as they attempt to rescue those lost in Steymhorod.

Vekt

Vekt is a dragonkin warrior who meets Erela early on in her adventures. The two develop a romance as they travel together (spoilers, sorry!). We discover much of Vekt’s backstory in Part One, so I will leave that be for now. The warrior is originally from Sanctuary and has close, albeit complicated, ties to the throne.

He also follows Cassandra and serves as the protector of her Chosen. Erela and Vekt are soulbound.
